Bernard R. Stuntebeck, 36, who originally is from Wisconsin but lived in Newton Falls, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for downloading and reproducing child pornography on a computer.

Stuntebeck pleaded guilty Thursday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to 22 counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.

The FBI investigated the crimes, which occurred at a home in Newton Falls in October 2013. Prosecutors said he came to Newton Falls because a woman he met online paid for him to fly here.

Judge Ronald Rice could have sentenced Stuntebeck to more than 100 years in prison.

Charged in robbery

Steven Thomas Jr., who turned 18 on Oct. 21, surrendered to police Wednesday on an arrest warrant charging him with aggravated robbery.

The warrant accuses him of the Oct. 30 armed robbery of a cabdriver on Southern Boulevard Southwest.

The driver said he went to the 600 block of Southern about 10 p.m. to pick up a customer. Thomas walked from across the street and got into the cab. While the driver was talking to him, Thomas pulled out a handgun and demanded the driver’s cash, which he received, then fled on foot, police said. Thomas, of South Feederle Avenue, will be arraigned on the charge today in Warren Municipal Court. If convicted as charged, he could get 10 years in prison.

Suspect arrested

Township police arrested a suspect in a criminal-simulation case Wednesday.

Ashley Bowser, 23, of Youngstown is charged with a felony count of simulation and was set to appear in court Thursday night for an arraignment. According to a police report, Bowser is accused of withdrawing $6,000 from a Huntington National Bank branch after a bad check worth $7,520 was deposited into her account Aug. 26 at an ATM at 3960 South Avenue.

Township police learned about the incident after being contacted by Huntington’s corporate security- fraud investigator.

Laying of the Roses Ceremony planned

YOUNGSTOWN

The annual Laying of the Roses Ceremony sponsored by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 135 will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Vietnam War Memorial on The Square in downtown Youngstown. One rose will be placed at the monument in memory of those Mahoning County residents killed or missing in action during the war.
