Hilltop Elementary School and C.H. Campbell Elementary School students, and their families, came together to show some Canfield school spirit at a tailgate party at Hilltop before the varsity football game Oct. 24.
With extra cardinal spirit provided by varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders and 50 members of the Canfield High School band playing game time music, the students were pumped up for the football game.
DJ Anthony also provided music for the tailgate party and the Kensington Trolley was parked for the students to enjoy.
“Our principal, Mr. Maroni, came up with the idea for a tailgate party. The PTOs took the idea and ran with it and had fun with it. We wanted to incorporate what the kids would like into the evening,” said Marci Muckleroy, Hilltop PTO co-chair.
With approximately 27 volunteers from both schools, the party was expected to host about 500 people.
“This tailgate party was a big collaboration between Hilltop and C.H. Campbell PTOs,” said Julie Miller, Hilltop PTO chairperson.
As a special surprise for attendees, the Cardinal Joint Fire District provided a grand entrance for Big Red, with sirens blaring on one of their fire trucks. Big Red, Canfield High School’s new mascot, received a warm and rousing welcome from the elementary school students.
Canfield High School art students volunteered their talents to provide face painting for the evening. A 50/50 raffle was also offered throughout the party. Pizza, chips, cookies and water were served to all those attending.
