Blood taken from one of drivers in turnpike fatal

Staff report

HIRAM

Investigators drew blood from one of the drivers in Wednesday’s multivehicle crash on the Ohio Turnpike.

The accident occurred about 11:50 a.m., and a 27-year-old Maryland woman was killed.

A spokesman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol barracks in Hiram, which covers the turnpike, said investigators took a blood sample from 25-year-old Allen Worley of Indiana, who was towing two car-haulers with a Dodge pickup that reports said collided with the back of a sport utility vehicle driven by Karen Zorn of Maryland.

The blood will be submitted to the patrol’s crime lab in Columbus to test for any traces of drugs or alcohol.

Reports said the impact of the collision compressed Zorn’s vehicle with the rear of a firetruck that was on the turnpike for an unrelated accident. Zorn’s SUV was smashed and caught fire, killing her.

The accident occurred on Interstate 76 in Austintown and closed the westbound lanes of the turnpike for several hours.

Four other people were treated for injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Six vehicles were involved.
