Backers defend Common Core against repeal

Backers of Common Core are pushing back against an Ohio House effort to repeal the national learning standards before year’s end.

In a letter to House Rules Committee members, Ohio’s nine metropolitan chambers of commerce said “Ohio would be moving backwards” to reject the standards, which set new English and math goals for elementary and secondary students. The panel passed legislation Wednesday that would repeal the benchmarks.
