Austintown library hosts monthly Sit N’ Stitch event
By TIM CLEVELAND
For the second time, the Austintown library hosted its monthly event called Sit N’ Stitch, which allows area knitters and stitchers to gather and talk and exchange ideas.
“Sit N’ Stitch is a new program that started last month,” Austintown library assistant supervisor Starr Jones said. “It’s an hour for adults to come in and bring their sewing projects and just sit and talk about what they’re doing, make new friends, get some new ideas for projects. I’m going to pull some books about sewing projects, stitching. It’s kind of a social gathering.”
Jones said that people who attend the Sit N’ Stitch event will have the opportunity to gain some new ideas for their projects as well as make new friends.
Jones told a little about some of her experiences with knitting and stitching.
“I have done cross stitch and a little bit of crewel work, where you take a ribbon or yarn and do a fancy stitch with it to make a pattern,” she said.
Jones brought in a project of her own. She said it was something she got out of her basement that she hasn’t done anything with in about eight years.
“I haven’t done it in a long time,” she said. “I like to do it because it’s fun to make things and it’s kind of relaxing. Since I had kids I haven’t done any crafty things.”
