The Youngstown 6.0 women’s tennis team finished second at the United States Tennis Association league adult 55 & Over 6.0 national championships last weekend. The team lost to a team from Ocala, Fla., in the championship match.

Youngstown defeated a team from Los Gatos, Calif., 3-0 in the semifinals.

Youngstown is captained by Shirley Jane Neher and includes Carol Ann Sankovic, Diana Edwards, Lynne Marie Rosati, Patricia Jones, Jean Sauerwein, Heidi Marie DeNiro, Melissa Chaves, Susan Brown, Carol Penny and Lois Smith.

“Rebound for the ROC” set for Nov. 22

Salem

The ROC of Salem Youth Center will present the inaugural “Rebound for the ROC,” a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Nov. 22 to raise funds for operating expenses and programming. The tournament will be held at Salem First Friends Church on Jennings Ave. beginning with games at 1 p.m. The tournament will feature a 16-team bracket, will be double elimination and teams will include four players each. There will be no age divisions. Games will last 20 minutes each. Team registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The first 16 teams to register and pay the entry fee will be included. Cost is $20 per player ($80 per team). Each team is guaranteed two games and each player will receive a T-shirt. The winning team will win a four-pack of Cleveland Cavaliers tickets for the Nov. 24 home game against the Orlando Magic. Senior All Star game set for Sunday

The Youngstown District Scholastic Soccer Coach’s Association (YDSSCA) Annual Senior All Star game will be held at Hubbard Memorial Stadium on Sunday. 156 area high school seniors will play throughout the day, showcasing their talents for fans and college soccer coaches. Boys games will be held at 10 a.m and 11:30 am, Girls games will be held at 1 p.m and 2:30 p.m. Gates open at 9 a.m. Admission cost is $6.

Basketball showcase announces line-up

The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley presents the third annual Hope Classic High School Basketball Showcase at the Struthers Fieldhouse in Struthers. This year, the showcase will feature four games on Dec. 13 at the Fieldhouse, with all the games being televised live on MyYTV. All proceeds from the event benefit The Hope Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Teams participating in the showcase include the girls’ teams from Maplewood & Columbiana. Boys’ teams taking part are Howland, Hudson, Bristol, McDonald, Alliance and Struthers. Doors open at 2 p.m. Games start at 3 p.m: Maplewood vs. Columbiana (girls), 4:30 p.m: Howland vs. Hudson, 6 p.m: Bristol vs. McDonald and 7:30 p.m: Alliance vs. Struthers.

Presale tickets will be on sale for $6 for general admission, starting Monday, Nov. 17 at 8 a.m. General admission tickets will be available at each participating school’s athletic departments or online at HopeMV.org . One ticket is good for all four games on Saturday. Tickets are $7 the day of the event.

Glenn to appear at Everything Buckeyes

Terry Glenn former Ohio State All American and Fred Bilitnikoff Award winner (best college wide receiver) will be appearing at Everything Buckeyes on Saturday, from 3 to 5 p.m. He also was the NFL Rookie of the Year and Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots.
