City to discuss future of Cleveland rail stops
CLEVELAND (AP) — Officials in Cleveland planned to meet today to discuss the future of several deteriorating stations in the area’s rail network.
The Plain Dealer newspaper reports the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority was seeking public comment on three of the least-used stations in the rail system. Two stations in question are along the Red Line, which runs from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport to East Cleveland. Another station serves both the Blue and Green lines near the Kinsman neighborhood.
The meeting comes about a week after reports assembled for the Ohio Department of Transportation suggested the state should nearly double public transit spending over the next decade.
The three stations are considered crucial links to the area’s upcoming “Opportunity Corridor,” a 3.5-mile boulevard linking Interstate 490 and the University Circle neighborhood.
