Home Depot breach costs Ohio credit unions $1.3M

The Credit Union National Association says the breach of customer data at Home Depot earlier this year cost Ohio credit unions more than a million dollars.

The Columbus Dispatch reported that Ohio credit unions spent $1.3 million handling the data breach, based on a survey of credit unions. The money went toward reissuing cards, handling fraud and covering other breach-related costs.

Home Depot, the country’s largest home-improvement retailer, confirmed earlier this year that malicious software in its check-out terminals between April and September had affected millions of debit and credit cards nationally.
