ELECTION UPDATE | Springfield voters OK income tax renewal for schools
SPRINGFIELD
Springfield voters have approved the renewal of a 1 percent income tax that supports the school district, with 52 percent in favor of the renewal and 48 percent against it, according to Mahoning County Board of Elections data.
“We are grateful for the continued support from the taxpayers and the acknowledgement that the children are our future,” Superintendent Debra Mettee said in a statement.
The tax raises about $2 million annually and originally passed in 1992.
In light of the renewal, Springfield school officials will finalize planning for an all-day kindergarten for next school year and finalize enhanced course offerings.
