ELECTION UPDATE | South Range school levy fails
SOUTH RANGE
South Range voters have defeated the 3.9-mill, 10-year additional levy on the ballot, with 39 percent in favor of the proposal and 61 percent against it.
“The failure of the levy presents many challenges to our district in terms of programming and student services. We are grateful to the community for their past support and will continue to work diligently with the available resources,” Superintendent Dennis Dunham said in a statement.
“The district will be in the process of determining the best course of action based on the recent levy failure. Programming and personnel discussions will take place over the next several months to determine how to proceed with the projected operating deficit,” he said.
The proposed levy would have raised $707,560 annually for the school district and would have cost the owner of a $100,000 home $136.50 per year.
Without the additional funds, the district will have a deficit of about $700,000 by fiscal year 2017.
