Child makes gun threat on bus

NORTH JACKSON

A fifth-grader in the Jackson-Milton School District has been suspended over threatening to shoot another girl on the bus Tuesday on the way home from school.

Superintendent Kirk Baker said the child was suspended from the bus and never went back to school.

“There was a meeting today. She was suspended and there will be a hearing,” he said, adding that the girl faces possible expulsion.

He said the guardian of the child who was threatened filed a police report Tuesday.

“I assure you that the Jackson-Milton School District does not take threats against our district lightly. Our goal is for all students to achieve high academic standards within a safe learning environment,” he said.

No further public comment will be made by the school district until a complete investigation has been conducted, he said.
