YSU volleyball falls to Valparaiso
YOUNGSTOWN
The Youngstown State volleyball team committed 22 attack errors and fell short in two close sets to Valparaiso, losing 25-17, 25-23, 28-26 on Saturday evening at Beeghly Center.
Libero Nikki Thompson had a match-best 23 digs, which tied the school record for digs in a three-set match in the rally-scoring era. YSU posted 44 kills, but it was blocked 10 times and committed 12 more attack errors. Egler had a team-best 12 kills, and Aly Ryan finished with 10 on 25 attempts.
YSU (16-10, 7-4) and Valparaiso (21-6, 7-4) are tied for third in the Horizon League and Valpo completed a season sweep.

Baffert’s Bayern wins Breeders’ Cup

Bayern won the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic by a nose, surviving a stewards’ inquiry prompted by multiple horses bumping near the start of Saturday’s race.
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert had to wait, along with a crowd of 61,114 at Santa Anita, to confirm that he had finally won North America’s richest race after failing in 12 previous tries.

Moore, Na tied at CIMB Classic

Defending champion Ryan Moore is tied for the lead with Kevin Na after both shot rounds of 5-under 67 in the third round of the CIMB Classic on Saturday.
Moore had seven birdies against two bogeys while Na had a bogey-free round with five birdies to move to 12-under 204 in the jointly sanctioned PGA Tour and Asian Tour event at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.

Perry, Pernice lead at Champions Tour

Kenny Perry and Tom Pernice Jr. shared the lead Saturday in the Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, taking advantage of Jay Haas’ third-round collapse.
Perry shot a 2-under 68, and Pernice had a 70 to finish at 8-under 202.
Rosberg tops Hamilton for US Grand Prix pole

Nico Rosberg earned a chance to tighten the Formula One championship race with Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton by winning pole position Saturday for the U.S. Grand Prix.
Rosberg edged Hamilton by .376 seconds at the Circuit of the Americas. Valtteri Bottas of Williams will start third.
