Color Vanity offers speciality makeup, services

A few years ago, Lisa Morris decided she wanted to start taking time for herself.
That’s when she met cosmetologist and entrepreneur Lucia Carna. She had her put on lashes, which she loved, moved on to skin care and makeup and then hair services.
“I didn’t want to look 20, but I wanted to look a good 50,” Morris said.
Carna’s Color Vanity skin and makeup collection gave her that look, and the hair done by Carna, 29, just topped it off. Now, Morris comes to Carna’s Boardman shop two to three times a month from Cranberry, Pa.
“I am not the stylist who goes into autopilot,” Carna said. “I am the one who wants to change [up the look].”
Her appreciation for the complete look, development of her own natural skin care and makeup and commitment to service created a following of customers at her Color Vanity Beautique on California Avenue in Boardman.
“I really wanted to do something that was fun and chic and instantaneously makes women feel better,” Carna said.
Carna was just like every little girl. She wanted to dive into her mother’s makeup and dab it all over her face, and she did at times. Her love for makeup continued beyond her adolescent years. She worked for many mainstream cosmetic companies while she attended Youngstown State University for political science.
She always knew she wanted to be successful, and becoming a lawyer was the way to that success, so she thought.
“I really thought I was going to be a lawyer,” Carna said. “I never thought I would be a makeup artist.”
When she started to think of how to transition her love for makeup into a career is when she decided to switch to marketing in college.
“I realized I could build a career with that,” Carna said.
In doing her own makeup, she started to see that she would break out with the makeup she was using. She tried natural and organic makeup products and saw a difference. She then started to develop her own line of makeup and skin care called Color Vanity by Lucia.
“I didn’t agree with the harmful ingredients in conventional makeup,” she said. “Makeup should be a tool for you, not a weapon against your skin.”
After she developed her line, she started to sell it at parties and online. To expand her services, Carna went to cosmetology school for hair.
Although Carna wanted to move on to a big city and market her products, she decided to stay in the Youngstown area and develop her product and her store in this market.
“I believed there are enough women [in this market] who wanted a speciality line,” she said. “I wanted to build my own clients before doing this.”
The Boardman location opened up in September. Since then, more and more clients keep coming.
Cristina Memo of Poland is one of those new clients whose look was revamped by Carna, she thinks for the better.
“I wanted a fresh look and I found Lucia,” Memo said. “I am a pharmacist by trade and I was very intrigued by the natural makeup Lucia has.”
Carna chose everything for Memo from cut to color and makeup.
“She will stay with you for as long as you want,” she said. “You feel so good when you come in. It’s Lucia. She is the beauty of this place.”
