Southington Middle Schools takes first in Envirothon

The first-place winner in this year’s Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District Junior Envirothon at Mosquito Lake State Park was Southington Middle School.
Members of the team are Sophia Rasey, Marley Rogers, Anthony Arp, Evan Proverbs and Ryan Johnston. Second place went to Bristol Middle School, including members Aleesha Tingler, Damian Durst, Alea Drennen, Randi Turner and Scott Thompson.
Three teams tied for third place: Lakeview Middle School, Champion Middle School and Badger Middle School. Nineteen teams participated.
The Junior Envirothon is an outdoor event that provides hands-on learning. Teams were tested in five categories — soils, forestry, aquatics, wildlife and “sustainable agriculture and local foods.”
The competition is open to any Trumbull County middle school.
