Mother, daughter found dead in home

A mother and daughter were found dead Saturday afternoon in their Mercer Street home, and authorities believe they died of natural causes.
The mother, 86, and daughter, 58, both had health problems and were under doctors’ care, police said. Their identities were not released.
The family recently had had a new furnace installed, but scans run by the city fire department found no measurable carbon-monoxide readings. Toxicology tests will be run, police said.
The mother’s son, who last had spoken to the women Thursday, came to check on his mother and sister Saturday when he hadn’t heard from them and found them dead about 3 p.m.
Mercer Street runs between Glenwoood Avenue and Plum Street on the city’s South Side.
