3 trick-or-treaters die in hit-and-run
LOS ANGELES
Authorities on Saturday tracked the owner of an SUV suspected of being used in a Halloween night hit-and-run that killed three teenage girls to a Southern California home, only to find someone else living there.
The black Honda had not been reported stolen. Detectives set about the task of trying to determine where the owner was and who was driving when the vehicle traveling at high speed hit the girls, including twin sisters, who were out for a night of trick-or-treating.

An Egyptian court convicted eight men Saturday for “inciting debauchery” after their appearance in a purported same-sex wedding party on a Nile boat, sentencing each of them to three years in prison.
The Internet video shows two men exchanging rings and embracing among cheering friends. The eight were detained in September when a statement from the office of Egypt’s chief prosecutor said the video clip was “shameful to God” and “offensive to public morals.”
Calif. cop charged in nude-photo scandal
MARTINEZ, Calif.
Authorities say a former California Highway Patrol officer has been charged with two felonies after women he arrested on suspicion of drunken driving accused him of stealing explicit photos from their cellphones.
The Contra Costa Times reported Friday that 35-year-old Sean Harrington resigned days before prosecutors filed charges. The allegations surfaced after a 23-year-old woman discovered nude photos of herself on her phone had been sent to an unfamiliar number.
Investigators say Harrington told them he considered it a game and had done it several times.
UN panel adopts climate report
COPENHAGEN, Denmark
The United Nations’ expert panel on climate science finished a report on global warming Saturday that the UN’s environment agency said offers “conclusive evidence” that humans are altering the Earth’s climate system.
The document, which combines the findings of three earlier reports, was adopted after all-night talks by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that went on until 5 a.m. Saturday. The report is scheduled to be released to the public today.
NYC doctor with Ebola improves
NEW YORK
Hospital officials say a New York doctor who became infected with Ebola while treating patients in Guinea has been upgraded from serious but stable to stable condition.
The New York City Health and Hospitals Corp. issued the upgrade for Dr. Craig Spencer on Saturday morning.
The agency runs Bellevue Hospital Center, where Spencer has been undergoing treatment since he was brought there nine days ago.
Branson vows to find cause of crash
MOJAVE, Calif.
Billionaire Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson vowed Saturday to find out what caused the crash of his prototype space tourism rocket, killing one crew member and injuring another, but sounded a cautious note about any move to quickly push the project forward.
In grim remarks at the Mojave Air and Space Port, where the craft known as SpaceShipTwo was under development, Branson gave no details of Friday’s accident and deferred to the National Transportation Safety Board, whose team had just arrived.
