The Handel’s Koins for Kids campaign kicks off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today with a firefighters’ boot drive.
Area firefighters will collect donations for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley at these intersections: Canfield and Meridian roads, by the Youngstown and Austintown fire departments; Belmont Avenue and state Route 304, Liberty Fire Department; Youngstown-Poland Road and Wilson Avenue, Struthers Fire Department; South Avenue and Mathews Road, Boardman Fire Department; and Shields Road and state Route 46, Canfield Fire Department.
Also, local schoolchildren participate in the campaign by conducting fundraising activities and personalizing holiday snowman decorations in exchange for donations to the hospital. The schools raising the most funds in each county, based on a percentage raised versus school enrollment, will receive an ice cream social plus a DJ for a school dance.
Registration is underway for the school portion of the campaign, which is from Dec. 1 to 12. Schools in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties are invited to participate. For information and to register, call Handel’s at 330-702-8270.
Now in its sixth year, the Handel’s “Koins for Kids” campaign has raised more than $175,000 for the local children’s hospital. One hundred percent of the funds raised during the Koins for Kids campaign stays in the Mahoning Valley.
