AUSTINTOWN

Austintown police arrested a township man on charges of obstructing official business after a foot chase.

David Buchanan, 40, of Callaway Circle, is charged with obstructing official business in Austintown. Austintown police then transferred him to Boardman, where he faces a charge of misdemeanor theft.

According to a report, Boardman police notified Austintown authorities Tuesday to look out for Buchanan, who was involved in a chase in Boardman.

Police said Buchanan is a suspect in reported thefts at Kmart stores in Austintown and Boardman over the past week. He was driving his mother’s Ford Focus.

At 11:29 a.m. Wednesday, authorities spotted the Ford Focus pull into a driveway of a Callaway Circle home with Buchanan slumped down in the front seat. While contacting dispatch, the officer saw the man run out of the passenger side door, and the chase began.

Authorities caught Buchanan about 11:50 a.m. in the front yard of another Callaway Circle home.

Boardman police were seeking Buchanan after he fled from the Kmart at 1209 Boardman-Poland Road after purportedly attempting to steal three items.
