It came a couple days early, but the Early Childhood Learning Center at St. Luke celebrated Mothers Day with a Muffins with Mom event on May 9.

“This is something they do every year,” said St. Luke volunteer publicity director Farra Simerlink. “The kids get to make things for their moms for Mothers Day. They get to have muffins with their moms. It’s just like a special day for the kids to bond with their moms.”

Fifty students in pre kindergarten, transitional kindergarten and preschool and their moms had a meal consisting of muffins, cupcakes, watermelon and grapes, with coffee, water or milk to drink.

The projects the students made for their moms were flower pots, books with their fingerprints in paint and painted tiles that can be hung on the wall.

Linda Finnigan of Boardman attended along with her daughter Leah. She said she attended the event last year and has always enjoyed it.

“I love it. It’s adorable; it’s beautiful,” she said. “It made my day. It’s wonderful. They had something last year and it was just as nice. We look forward to this, definitely.”

“This is bonding time with their moms,” Simerlink said. “This is also in celebration of the moms for Mothers Day. They get to show off the things they’ve made in school and they’ll perform a song or a special prayer.”
