POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

May 22

Theft: A $600 iPhone was stolen from a residence in the 6500 block of Clingan Road.

Arson: Police were helping to investigate a fire to an unattached garage in the 600 block of Cathy Ann Drive.

May 23

Recovered property: A 2005 Chevrolet vehicle was found after a Katahdin Drive woman reported it had been used without authorization.

Criminal damaging: Part of a driveway in the 6100 block of Acatello Place was damaged.

Criminal damaging: A double-pane window sustained $200 in damage at a home in the 2400 block of Timothy Knoll Drive.

May 25

Theft: A Shetland Lane woman reported $100, a leather case and other property stolen from her residence.

BOARDMAN

May 24

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 32-year-old Monique L. Lobato of Moherman Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a charge of defrauding of a livery, a first-degree misdemeanor. Last month, a manager of the Wagon Wheel Motel, 7015 Market St., reported a woman had stayed one week without paying $110 in rent.

Criminal damaging: Two children’s bicycles were damaged in the 7300 block of Bonnie Place.

Theft: Terri L. Melone of Katherine Street, Struthers, was charged in the theft of three lobster tails valued at $76 from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive. The 41-year-old Melone also was wanted on a theft warrant after two food items had been taken from GFS Marketplace, 7460 South Ave.

Theft: A man stole an undetermined quantity of merchandise from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Arrest: Alvin P. Traylor III, 47, of Detroit Avenue, Youngstown, was booked via telephone at the Mahoning County jail on charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Harassment: An employee for a South Avenue pet-care center said her former boyfriend made 12 such calls to her while she was at work.

Theft: Courtney S. Bailey, 19, was charged when, police said, the Ashtabula woman stole about $298 worth of women’s clothing from Sears in Southern Park Mall.

Stolen property: After pulling over a vehicle near South Avenue, police learned that the rear license plate had been stolen in Girard and that a handicap placard they found was registered to another person. The driver received a written warning but was not charged at the time of the report.

Theft: Police charged 38-year-old Rebecca L. Robinson of Fowler Street, Cortland, with taking $122 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Recovered property: A 2000 Chevrolet Prizm was found in the 100 block of Shadyside Drive after a Youngstown man had reported it stolen.

Criminal damaging: A car in the 400 block of Boardman-Canfield Road was found with a shattered driver’s-side window. The damage estimate was $500.

Theft: Carlos F. Pinho, 24, of Newark, N.J., was charged with stealing a $290 pair of sunglasses and clothing from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

May 25

Arrest: Police took into custody 28-year-old Gary Z. Tubbs-Whitfield after pulling him over near Glenwood Avenue and finding out he was accused of failing to appear in court on traffic and falsification charges. Tubbs-Whitfield, of Potomac Avenue, Youngstown, also was under 12 driving suspensions, a report said.

Theft: Jennifer L. Black, 40, faced a felony-theft charge after police picked her up in Deerfield, Portage County. The Alliance woman was accused of taking about $2,000 worth of property in a May 6 shoplifting situation at Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted two vehicles in the 8000 block of Forest Lake Drive, as well as a mailbox in the 70 block of Midgewood Drive.

Theft: Authorities booked 30-year-old Tina M. Hall on a theft charge after accusing Hall, of Oakwood Avenue, Youngstown, of stealing more than $1,000 worth of clothing, dog food and other merchandise during a Dec. 20, 2013, shoplifting situation at Walmart.

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 224 resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old John L. Mayo Jr. of Red Tail Hawk Drive, Boardman. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Criminal mischief: A township sign in the 8100 block of Market Street was spray-painted.

Theft: The rear temporary tag was removed from a vehicle in the 1100 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

May 26

Auto theft: A 1994 Toyota vehicle was stolen in the 5000 block of Aravesta Avenue.

Theft: A woman reported 20 articles of boys clothing missing from a closet at a residence in the 10 block of Montrose Circle.

Harassment/criminal damaging: An Alburn Drive woman reported a man has made continual unwanted calls to her and came to her apartment unannounced, and that her vehicle’s front tires were flat.

Theft: Two men reportedly pulled up in a pickup truck and stole a $700 generator and a $400 power washer from Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive.

Theft/vandalism: A pair of bolt cutters apparently was used to cut a security cable to a trailer in the 800 block of Forestridge Drive before a $500 leaf blower was taken.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed potatoes at a fence in the 4000 block of Shelbourne Drive.

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a rear screen door, entered Lottery Express, 5955 South Ave., and removed an undisclosed sum of money from a safe.

Drugs: Timothy K. Saunders, 46, faced a felony drug-abuse charge and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia after officers pulled him over on Market Street. Saunders, of Columbiana-Canfield Road, Columbiana, had a folded piece of paper with suspected crack-cocaine powder as well as a suspected crack pipe partially filled with crack cocaine, a report showed.

Harassment: A Washington Boulevard woman said her former boyfriend made 23 degrading and unwanted calls to her.

Domestic violence: A Youngstown girl, 15, was taken into custody on Bonnie Place and charged with the crime after her mother alleged the girl had bitten her right forearm during an argument regarding cellphone use. The accuser had a red bite mark, police said.

May 27

Domestic violence: A township boy, 13, was charged after his mother alleged that during an argument related to discipline matters, the teen had swung and struck her left hand with a child’s scooter, causing a deep cut to her thumb.

Misuse of a credit card: A Huntington Place woman discovered $1,212.60 worth of unauthorized charges to her checking account.

Theft: A Boardman boy, 16, was charged in the theft of a $70 DVD set from Walmart.

Theft: A bank card was removed from a home in the 8500 block of Hitchcock Road.

Domestic violence: A 15-year-old Boardman girl faced a charge after her mother alleged the girl had struck her face during an argument pertaining to a cellphone.

Theft: A man in a white T-shirt and black pants fled Kmart after reportedly stealing $510 worth of merchandise.

Arrest: Members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force picked up 30-year-old David E. Leaghty at his South Maryland Avenue home on a warrant charging breaking and entering and criminal damaging. The Youngstown man was accused of entering a vacant Cheriwood Circle residence, then cutting a line to an outside air-conditioning unit and damaging two water lines.

Theft: An Austintown man reported an envelope containing $5,006 likely was stolen as he patronized a business in the 40 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Two men stole then placed in the bed of a pickup truck two grills from Walmart.
