MCDONALD

Girl Scout Troop 80344 received the Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service Award for outstanding community service at a ceremony May 9 at Roosevelt Elementary School.

It included special guests Mark Callion from the office of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan and McDonald Village Administrator Thomas Domitrovich.

Troop Leader Candice Ward and Assistant Troop Leaders Lori Gillespie and Patricia Vilk-Worrell presented the awards, which consist of the Gold Level Service Pin, a letter signed by President Obama, an official Service Recognition Certificate, and a certificate stating the activities each girl participated in to win the award.

Callion presented the Scouts with individual certificates from the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize their service, and state Sen. Capri Cafaro provided a troop recognition for earning the prestigious award.

Last year, the troop served 2,673 hours and already is working toward this year’s award. Abriella Gillespie, Megan Ward, Rachel Ward and Maley Worrell individually contributed more than 100 hours toward the troop’s total. Hannah Alcantar, Nevaeha Carkido, Sela Jones, Cailey Titus and Isabella Wolford each contributed 50 to 99 hours. Kaleigh Rasey, Abigail Sampson and Lucia Wolford each gave 25 to 39 hours of service. All 12 of the Scouts attend McDonald schools.

Ward, Gillespie and Vilk-Worrell also received the award, and Ward also received the Call to Service Award, a lifetime service honor with more than 5,000 hours of individual service, logged from 2006 through 2012.

The following parents who volunteer on a regular basis and meet the eligibility requirements for the award are Hud Gillespie, JoMarie Jones, Deb McCalpin, Tammy Sampson, Michelle Titus, Greg Ward and Becky Wolford.

Two Daisy Juliette Scouts, Caroline Alcantar and Miley Titus, were recognized for community service for projects they participated in with the troop.
