Teter, Zinni win events in D-II regional meet

Girard’s Savannah Teter took the top spot in the girls high jump finals at the Division II regional track and field meet on Thursday.

Teter jumped 5-2 to earn the top qualifing position for the region at next week’s state meet in Columbus.

For the girls shot put, Tia Harris of Newton Falls qualified third with a throw of 38-51/2. Also moving to the state meet was Lynnea Mims of Struthers, throwing 37-10.

For the boys discus final, West Branch’s Jake Zinni placed first with a 155-09. United’s Lucas Cooper placed second with a 155-06. Rounding out the top four were Salem’s Elijah Bricker (153-06), and Mooney’s Dante Penza (148-03).

In the girls preliminaries, Ursuline’s Lavonte Powell qualified first in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 100.

Powell clocked in at 12.63 for the 100 and 25.53 in the 200. Alexandra Carnatha (Ursuline) took the top spot in the 100 with a 12.54.

Ursuline’s 4x200 girls relay team qualified fifth in the preliminary with a time of 1:45.05, while Girard’s team placed sixth, coming in at 1:45.23.

The 4x100 girls relay team from Ursuline finished with a time of 49.93, good enough for fourth place.

In the 400, Hubbard’s Melissa Thomas finished at 1:00.20, good enough for sixth-fastest time in the preliminary. Salem’s Marissa Swindell finished seventh and Girard’s Justine Kagy placed eighth.

In the 110 high hurdles preliminary, Salem’s Caleb Quinn finished with a 15.64, placing fifth. Also qualifing were Girard’s Colin Harden (seventh) and Mooney’s Donovan McWilson (eighth).

As for the 4x200 relay preliminaries, Salem place fifth, with a time of 1:30.60. Mooney finished with a time of 1:31.75, and Hubbard took the eighth spot, with a time of 1:31.75.

West Branch’s Josiah Ross placed fourth in the 300 hurdle preliminary (41.22) and Poland’s Bryan Partika finished with a time of 41.35, good for seventh.

For the 4x400 boys relay, Salem had the fastest time with a 3:25.50, while Poland’s squad finished eighth (3:31.07).
