Canfield Village Middle School drama students presented “Fiddler on the Roof Jr.,” a special adaptation of the classic Broadway musical, at the school April 25-26 and May 2-3.

Under Artistic Director, Choreographer and CVMS Theater Teacher Kandace Cleland, the seventh- and eighth-grade cast and crew transported their audience to the little village of Anatevka.

The cast included Jonathan Scurich as Tevye, Isabella Audia at The Fiddler, Smaranda Soloman as Yente, Jonathan Gant as Motel, Ben Lawson as Perchik, Greg Halley at Lazar Wolfe, Dominic DeRamo at Mordcha, Robert Elsas as Mendel, Andrew Kern as Avram the bookseller, Dylan Mauch as Fyedka, Harmeet Kaur as Naomi, Erik Weimer as Sasha and Clay Cutrer as the Beloved Rabbi.

“It’s been a rooftop balancing experience for these students. They’ve juggled school work, music and dance lessons, sports and family life. But no matter how crazy it has been, ask any of us and we will tell you that we’re crazy in love with this meaningful and beautiful piece of classical musical theatre. Fiddler has brought out the best in all of us. We invite you to join us in our rooftop experience. It’s a little crazy, but we will teach you how to keep your balance,” Cleland wrote in the production’s program.

Local professional musician Jodine Pilmer served as music director and several students and parents worked behind the scenes to make the production a success.

Students were selling flowers in the lobby which attendees could purchase for cast members. Attendees were also invited to purchase photo buttons and concessions to support the CVMS Players.
