Season ends in defeat

Boardman boy baseball recently ended a season of tough losses with a 6-4 loss to Canton Glen Oak. The Spartans were eliminated from the Division 1 Tournament a week earlier by Warren Harding 3-2. The offense struggled all year for Boardman. The team batting average was .229. With a team ERA of 3.11, the Spartans were able to have a chance of winning every night. But in the end they suffered 17 losses by three runs or less, 12 losses by two runs or less, and seven losses by one run. Seniors lost to graduation are Aaron Dill, Phil Diianni, Jake Baun, Carmen Marinucci, Ben Statler and Eddie Crump. Baun had three of Boardman’s wins this year while Eddie Crump was the team’s leading hitter at .312. Lou Cardona led the team in home runs with two.

BGMS track results

The Boardman Glenwood Middle School track team competed at the Mahoning County Championship meet on May 19. The girls team took sixth place over all. Placing for the girls were Makayla D’Eramo (third place, 100 hurdles and 200 hurdles), Kaylin Burkey (first place in high jump and sixth place in 200 dash), Sophia McGee (fifth place, long jump) and Brigita Ositis (sixth place, long jump). The boys team took seventh overall with places claimed by Blake Courtis (sixth place, 100 dash), the 4x100 relay team of Blake Courtis, Zach Hillard, John Fleet and Ethan Himes (sixth), John Fleet (fourth, 400-meter), the 4x200 relay team of Nick Torres, Blake Courtis, Che` Trevena and Ethan Himes (fourth), Ethan Himes (fourth, 200 dash), Zach Larrier (sixth, high jump) and Nick Torres (fourth, long jump).

It’s spring sports season. Neighbors wants to be there every step of the way. If you’re a summer sports coach or the parent of an athlete, we need you help. In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.
