Blood drive today

LIBERTY

The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today at the Liberty Branch Library, 415 Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Street to close

YOUNGSTOWN

West Commerce Street between North Phelps Street and Wick Avenue will be closed Friday to Sunday for crane work related to the 20 Federal Place chiller-replacement project. Local detours will be posted. Pedestrian access will be restricted in this area at the discretion of the general contractor for safety reasons.

Special meeting

LOWELLVILLE

The Lowellville school board will have a special meeting at 4 p.m. today in the library/media center at 52 Rocket Place. The topic will be hiring personnel.

Training session

MINERAL RIDGE

The Weathersfield Township Fire Department will host a training session from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday at the structure at 3931 Main St., located at the corner of state Route 46 and Lincoln Avenue.

The structure will be used for fire training, testing of the Rapid Intervention Team and testing the newly recruited firefighters on self-containment breathing apparatus. The structure will be torn down in a controlled burn on Sunday.

Boy charged

BOARDMAN

Police arrested a 16-year-old boy in the theft of a Harry Potter DVD set from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Police were called to the business at 12:34 p.m. Tuesday. According to the police report, the teenager was detained by store authorities after he took the DVD set valued at $69.96. He is charged with one count of misdemeanor theft, and a court date is pending in juvenile court.

Search continues

BOARDMAN

Police are continuing their search for two men who took more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from an outdoor display at Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive.

According to a police report, the two took a generator and a power washer from a locked cage display Monday by using bolt cutters to gain access to the items, which had a total value of $1,098.

Break-in at store

BOARDMAN

Police are seeking leads into who broke in to the Lottery Express, 5955 South Ave., and took $600.

According to a police report, authorities arrived at the business at 11:13 p.m. Monday. A rear screen door and a steel entry door had been pried open. A safe was pried from the floor and taken, containing about $300. Another $300 was taken from an open cash register, according to the police report. The manager told police several employees have been let go over the past few months over disciplinary issues and money shortages.

Meeting planned

POLAND

Poland Township trustees will host a neighborhood meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the James Place Clubhouse Condominiums on Clingan Road. It will be an open discussion to address concerns in the area.
