Learn to grow your own vegetables this summer

By ERIC BARRETT

OSU Extension

Your mother always told you that vegetables were good for you.

More than ever, this is true today.

We want to help everyone improve their knowledge of growing vegetables so they can take part in the local foods movement in Youngstown.

Every Monday evening this summer, we want you to join us for an evening of learning and sharing.

Come out to the urban farms and the community gardens to learn to grow vegetables.

You will be amazed at the advancements on our urban farms and the ingenuity of our community gardens.

Join us to ask your questions. Get involved in the discussion about growing conditions, soils and maybe even some vegetables you have never heard of before.

We will identify diseases, insects, plants and more during the course of an evening. We give practical tips on water management, weed control, integrated pest management, and ways to control diseases during the summer months.

OSU Extension staff and master gardener volunteers will lead the evening program. We’ll have members of the Mahoning Valley Food Policy Council on site at many of the programs to share updates on the local foods scene in our area.

Bring a lawn chair for seating and a journal to take notes. Here’s the schedule:
