Jurors take break in Toney murder trial

YOUNGSTOWN — Jurors are taking a break in the capital murder trial of Aubrey Toney as a prosecution witness is given the opportunity to review her previous statements to police.

Leola Pugh was testifying before Judge Maureen Sweeney about what she witnessed Sept. 25, 2010, when Thomas Repchic, 74 was shot and killed and his wife Jacqueline was wounded as they were riding in a car at Southern Boulevard and East Philadelphia Avenue.

Police say Toney, 33, shot at their car in a case of mistaken identity. He could receive the death penalty if convicted.

Pugh was testifying about what she saw when she told Assistant Prosecutor Dawn Cantalamesa that police threatened her with jail if she did not tell them what they wanted to hear.

Pugh is now reviewing a videotape of her interview she gave to police.
