Vindy spelling champ correctly spells second word in national bee

NATIONAL HARBOR, MD. — Annabelle Day, 12, the grand champion of the 81st Vindicator Regional Spelling Bee, correctly spelled Valkyrian in the third round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee this afternoon.

Whether the Willow Creek Learning Center seventh-grader advances to Thursday’s semifinals will depend on her performance on Tuesday’s written test.

Those results will be calculated and posted later today.
