SE Ohio village police chief indicted on 12 counts

ATHENS, Ohio

A village police chief suspected of helping a woman avoid arrest has been indicted on 12 counts, including three counts of obstructing justice.

A grand jury on Tuesday also charged Glouster Chief Luke Mace with six misdemeanor counts of dereliction of duty, single felony counts of theft in office and having criminal tools, and a misdemeanor charge of failing to aid a law-enforcement officer.

It’s not clear if Mace has an attorney. There was no public telephone listing for him in Glouster, about 55 miles southeast of Columbus.

The Athens County prosecutor says Mace knew the woman was wanted by authorities and should have arrested her. He says Mace instead took the woman to dinner, allowed her to stay at his house and gave authorities misleading information.
