A district representative of U.S. Rep. Rob Portman, a Republican from the Cincinnati area, will be at the Boardman Public Library, BD Meeting Room at 7680 Glenwood Ave., from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday to meet with constituents. People attending can discuss thoughts and concerns with Portman’s representative.
Railroad crossings in Leetonia to close
LEETONIA
The Norfolk Southern Railroad is closing crossings in Leetonia to drop off new rails. Two or more crossings at a time may be closed due to the length of the equipment being used. The work will be done either today or Thursday.
South Side home damaged in fire
YOUNGSTOWN
A fire at a house at 149 Clarencedale Ave. on the city’s South Side sustained $17,000 worth of damage Tuesday.
Firefighters said the call came in about 4:30 a.m., and when they arrived, flames were coming out of the roof. The fire started in the living room on the ground floor and went up the stairs, reaching the attic on the third floor. The cause of the blaze is under investigation. No one was injured.
Cortland to launch marketing initiative
CORTLAND
The city will launch a nationwide marketing initiative aimed at promoting Cortland as “a great place to raise a family and open a business.”
“Our objective is to initiate more of a marketing communications effort where we can use digital marketing, public relations and sales strategies to attract business, industry and families throughout the region, state and nation,” Jim Woofter, Cortland City Council president, said in a press release.
Mayor Kurt Moll said a strategic marketing plan will be developed first, followed by a presentation to the business community.
A kickoff breakfast will take place at 7:30 a.m. June 12 at Lake Vista Clubhouse, 303 N. Mecca St. (state Route 46).
