‘Superstar’ coming to The Q, Consol

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. June 6 for the arena tour production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which comes to Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Aug. 10, and Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh on Aug. 12.

The cast includes Brandon Boyd, lead vocalist of rock band Incubus, as Judas Iscariot; JC Chasez of NSYNC as Pontius Pilate; Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child as Mary Magdalene; Johnny Rotten Lydon of the Sex Pistols as King Herod; and British actor-singer Ben Forster as Jesus.

Child actors sought for ‘Androcles’

Afterschool Players will hold auditions for a children’s production of “Androcles and the Lion” tonight from 6 to 8 at the Garage Theater, 7206 Market St. Performers in grades 3-12 are invited to audition for this Broadway musical. No theater experience is necessary. Auditionees must prepare a one-minute song, and will also be asked to read from the script.

Show dates are June 27, 28 and 29.

Art gallery expands children’s programs

The Art Outreach Gallery, inside Eastwood Mall, is expanding its summer workshops and children’s programs this year, to be presented June 23 to July 11.

Twenty-five workshops are scheduled for ages 3 to 15. Local author Fran Litch will read one of her books from The AmericAnts series at 10:30 a.m. and noon June 26 in the mall center court. The book, geared to ages 4-8, discusses the importance of eating a balanced meal.

All workshops and events are free, but students must register. Go to artoutreach.org to download a form, or pick one up at the gallery or the mall customer service center. Call 330-652-6980 for information.
