A woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly punching a Dayton police officer several times in the mouth, shoulders, arms and midsection, according to a police report.

Officers received several calls just before 10 a.m. Sunday about a woman in the area of West Third and Perry streets yelling, beating cars and jumping in front of vehicles, according to the report.

An officer found Brittney Thornton, 27, and she reportedly walked directly into him without stopping. The officer said he tried to back away, and they both went into lanes of traffic on South Wilkinson Street, the report states.

When he tried to stop Thornton, the officer said she reportedly hit him in the mouth. His report states he reacted by throwing a closed-hand strike, which missed Thornton. But she continued to land closed-fist strikes to his shoulders and arms, according to the report.

The officer said he grabbed one of her ponytails, and she reportedly continued to land punches to his midsection. He said he hit her three to four times to the face and was able to bring her down, according to the report.

He called for back up and officers took Thornton to Grandview Hospital for drug treatment, according to the report.

She was later taken to Montgomery County Jail, where she was still listed as an inmate Monday.

She is charged with felony assault and obstructing official business and misdemeanor disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to jail records.
