KARTHAUS, Pa.

Authorities in central Pennsylvania say the body of a man missing since his canoe capsized in the Susquehanna River earlier this month has been found.

The Centre County coroner’s office said Monday that the body of 19-year-old Curtis Martin of Lebanon was found Sunday in the river in a rural part of Burnside Township.

That’s about nine miles from the point where his canoe capsized May 17 while he and others were canoeing in the river on a trip organized by his church.

Officials said Martin and another man jumped out of the canoe as it was heading toward a large rock. The other man was able to reach shore.

Coroner Scott Sayers said Martin appears to have drowned, but a formal cause of death ruling was awaiting toxicological tests.
