A Youngstown man faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and resisting arrest

A 19-year-old Youngstown man faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.

Police said Devron J. Hosey was walking with two other males on the city’s South Side at 11:54 p.m. Saturday when two officers noticed Hosey repeatedly grabbing his right waistband as if he had a gun there.

The three were stopped on East Avondale Avenue — described in a police report as an area of “high gang activity, narcotics sales, gunfire and armed robberies” — by officers.

The two males with Hosey cooperated with police and agreed to be searched for weapons; none was found, the police report states.

Hosey declined to be searched, but a police report states an officer saw the outline of a gun handle protruding through his untucked shirt in his right waist area. Police told Hosey they believed he was armed and patted him, finding a loaded .22-caliber revolver with six live rounds.

While being arrested, Hosey punched two officers during a struggle, the police report states.

Police said officers found a small amount of suspected marijuana in his right pants pocket.

Hosey was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Police said the two males with Hosey fully complied with officers.
