‘Bookstore’ to be topic of discussion group

SDLqMr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore” by Robin Sloan will be the topic of discussion Tuesday when Salem Public Library’s book discussion group meets from 7 to 8 p.m. in Room 11 at the Salem Memorial Building, 785 E. State St.
The story is a tale of global conspiracy, code-breaking, high-tech data visualization, young love and more — set mostly in a San Francisco bookstore.
Share your insights of the story in the discussion group, which is open to the public. Registration is not required. Books are available in the Adult Circulation Department of the library.
The Adult Book Discussion Group meets the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7 to 8 p.m. For information, call the library at 330-332-0042.
Comedy comic series from Youngstown native
From Youngstown native Justin Raimey comes the debut volume of his comedy comic series.
It takes you into the world of Fiji Random, featuring gamer-girl Fiji Maide and her epic struggle to arrive to school on time.
This story includes humorous 4-panel comics splashed between the main storyline.
The story is full of laughs, video game references and unpredictability. It will be on sale in stores June 19.
Wings musician Juber talks Paul McCartney

Guitarist Laurence Juber has created a photo book about his career, highlighting the years he spent with Paul McCartney’s band, Wings.
“Guitar With Wings: A Photographic Memoir” is published by Dalton Watson Fine Books. The book was written by the Grammy Award-winning Juber and music historian Marshall Terrill and recounts the guitarist’s five-decade career.
The 250-plus page work has more than 200 previously unpublished images including Juber, McCartney and Wings, a spokesman for Juber said.
“Contrary to my expectations that the Wings era would be absorbed into the general arc of Paul McCartney’s career, interest in the band itself has continued to flourish and I recognized that I had a unique perspective to offer,” Juber said.
Amanda Peet has deal for children’s book

Random House Children’s Books has announced that it will release “Dear Santa, Love Rachel Rosenstein,” a picture book that the actress-playwright collaborated on with her friend Andrea Troyer. Publication is set for fall 2015.
The story revolves around a young Jewish girl who wonders why Santa doesn’t visit her house. According to a statement Peet issued through Random House, she was inspired by her two children, who asked why the family didn’t have a Christmas tree or holiday lights. Peet says she wanted to write about the feeling of being “left out.”
JLo, Penguin agree on ‘True Love’ memoir

Jennifer Lopez’s latest project is a story of “True Love.”
The entertainer has an agreement with Penguin Group (USA) for a book, her first, about her “cathartic” 2012 world tour. The publisher announced that the book will be called “True Love.”
It will come out in English and Spanish and will be released through Penguin’s Celebra imprint Oct. 29.
According to Celebra, the book will be a “diary” in which Lopez confides her greatest fears and how she overcomes them.
Alexandria, Va., tops best-read cities list

For the third-straight year, Alexandria, Va., has topped Amazon.com’s list of the best-read cities.
The online retailer announced that Alexandria, where many government workers from nearby Washington reside, ranks No. 1 for sales of books, newspapers and magazines in cities of 100,000 people or more. Miami was second, with residents there eager for books and magazines on self-help, health and mind and body topics. Knoxville, Tenn., was third; followed by Amazon’s home city, Seattle; and Orlando, Fla. Rounding out the top 10 were many college towns: Ann Arbor, Mich.; Berkeley, Calif.; Cambridge, Mass.; Cincinnati; and Columbia, S.C.
