2nd Harry Stevens Hot Dog Day June 29 in Niles

NILES

The 2nd Annual Harry Stevens Hot Dog Day celebration will be noon to 8 p.m. June 29 in downtown Niles.

New to this year’s event is the hot dog-eating contest and Miss Niles/Little Miss Niles competitions, to be at the McKinley Presidential Memorial.

Stevens is credited with popularizing the hot dog, inventing the baseball scorecard and, by many accounts, the drinking straw.

Among the events are a 2 p.m. ceremony at Niles City Cemetery honoring Stevens.
