Send information for VBS sessions

Lists of vacation Bible schools open to the public will run on the Religion page. Please include the following information: the complete name of the church; address with city or township; time, date and location of sessions; program theme; ages or grades; and whether it’s free or there is a fee. Information should be submitted two weeks before the school’s opening or its registration deadline.

Bishops to speak on papal letter

CANFIELD

Bishop Marcus Miller of the Northeastern Ohio Synod of the Evanglical Lutheran Church in America and Bishop George V. Murry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown will speak on Pope Francis’ document, “The Joy of the Gospel,” from 7 to 9 p.m. June 6 at Ursuline Motherhouse, 4250 Shields Road.

Bishop Miller, interim at the synod, recently addressed the National Catholic-Lutheran Dialogue on the pope’s document. He will share his reflections, and Bishop Murry will respond.

Sponsors are Catholic-Lutheran Covenant Commission of the diocese and synod, Mahoning Valley Association of Churches and ACTION (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods).

Parishioner to be honored

YOUNGSTOWN

Price Memorial AME Zion Church, 920 Dryden Ave., will honor Raymond Shaw (Rommel) on Sunday.

Shaw has played a major role at the church, as a member of the choir, the adult usher board, Boy Scout committee for 19 years, trustee board for 15 years and the Eastern Mental Health Committee. The formal postal worker and South High graduate is a Korean War veteran. He also is active in food-giveaway programs.

Free breakfast

HERMITAGE, PA.

Central Christian Church, 218 Meadowbrook Road, will offer a free community breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. There are no requirements, and all are welcome.

Sing-along night

LIBERTY

New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts-Wick Road, will present a “Saturday Night Sing-along” on Saturday.

Coffee, snacks and fellowship begin at 6 p.m., followed by a singing performance by Kim Ruscitti at 6:30, and the sing-along of old, beloved hymns at 7.

Summer hours

MINERAL RIDGE

Summer worship time at First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will be changed to 10 a.m. effective this Sunday, and running until the Sunday after Rally Day, Sept. 7, when it will return to 10:30 a.m. Church school will not take place during the summer months, but will resume in the fall.

Service moves

HERMITAGE, PA.

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., will have worship in its air-conditioned sanctuary Sundays at 10 a.m. this weekend through Labor Day weekend. Refreshments will be served after the hourlong services.
