Man arrested for December homicide

A Boardman man is in Mahon- ing County jail, charged with the aggravated murder of a Youngstown man in December.
Charles Stanley Jr., 28, of Shields Road, was arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court. He is in jail on a $500,000 bond. He already was behind bars on an aggravated-burglary charge related to the murder case. Authorities served him with the murder warrant Thursday at the jail.
Stanley is charged with aggra- vated murder in the death of 20-year-old Aldric Jones at a Fairmount Avenue home on the North Side. Jones was found by police lying in the home’s driveway about 9:30 p.m. Dec. 29. He died in the hospital the next day of a gunshot wound to the head.
Stanley was accused of breaking into a home in the 100 block of Silliman Street about 6:35 a.m. Dec. 24 as Jones was in the home with Stanley’s ex-girlfriend.
Stanley was arrested on a warrant for aggravated burglary at a Dean Street home May 15.
Detective Sgt. Mike Lambert, lead investigator, said Stanley was a suspect in the murder case, and he interviewed him after he was arrested on the aggravated- burglary warrant. He would not say if Stanley confessed, saying only he decided to charge Stanley with Jones’ death after he was interviewed.
Lambert said the case took some time to put together because several witnesses needed to be interviewed and ballistic testing needed to be done. Several search warrants also needed to be served in the case, Lambert said.
Police recovered three spent shell casings from the yard of the home where Jones was killed, reports said.
On Dec. 24, reports said a 29-year-old woman told officers Stanley forced his way into her home as she was trying to get Jones to leave out a side door.
Stanley managed to catch Jones, however, and marched him back into the home at gunpoint, reports said. When the woman ran up the stairs, Stanley followed her and Jones ran away. Stanley stole two Christmas presents and broke out all the windows on a car in the driveway with a hammer before running away, reports said.
Reports said that earlier, Stanley had confronted Jones over the woman and that Stanley told Jones the woman was “my girl.”
Stanley was arraigned before Judge Elizabeth Kobly as he had a preliminary hearing on the aggravated-burglary charge. She set his bond at $500,000 and a preliminary hearing date for next Friday.
Court records show Stanley has had several charges dating back to 2007, including misdemeanor counts of illegal conveyance of a weapon into a detention facility, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, disorderly conduct in Mahoning County Area Court in Boardman, and charges in common pleas court for possession of drugs, trafficking in cocaine and trafficking in drugs.
