Authorities investigating suspected arson

Police and fire officials are investigating a suspected arson.

According to a fire report, a neighbor called 911, and crews arrived at 2:55 p.m. Thursday and had the fire under control in five minutes. The fire was contained to a one-story, detached single-car garage with a closed but unlocked door.

According to a police report, officers arrived at 7448 Glenwood Ave. about 2:51 p.m. Thursday. There they met with officials from the township fire department and were advised the fire had been set deliberately.

Fire officials did not find an accelerant, but the fire began in the garage with a phone book and building materials at the center of the fire.

Authorities were unable to contact the property owner once on scene, and no matches or lighter were found.

Fire officials estimated $3,000 worth of damage to property and contents.
