Poland’s Sikora stars at Ohio Northern

Poland graduate and Ohio Northern junior Adriana Sikora was named second team All-America in softball for 2014 in voting conducted by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Sikora was also named first team All-Central Region, first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference and was named to the All-OAC Tournament Team this year.
She led the OAC with 16 home runs, 51 runs scored, 39 RBI, 18 doubles, a 1.016 slugging percentage and a .558 on-base percentage. Sikora led the team and was third in the OAC in batting with a .480 average and started all 40 games in right field.
Three Fitch football players choose colleges

Three players who helped Austintown Fitch record the first undefeated football regular season in school history have made their college choices.
C.J. Martini, a two-year letterman and starter at superback and linebacker will attend Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa.
Mark Quigley, a letterman who played offensive and defensive line, will be attending Waynesburg (Pa.) University.
Drake Marinelli, a two-year letterman and a starter on the defensive line, will be attending Walsh University in Canton.
Canfield’s Baker has stellar freshman season

Canfield graduate and Wittenberg University freshman outfielder Abby Baker earned All-Central Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Baker earned second-team honors in her inaugural campaign at Wittenberg, starting all 35 games in right field for the Tigers. She also won North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-NCAC honors.
She posted a batting average of .402 and a team-best on-base percentage of .460 and was charged with just one error in the field en route to a fielding percentage of .969.
Calcagni has big hit in Poland’s big inning

Poland sophomore Anthony Calcagni had a pinch-hit single to tie the game in the sixth inning of Wednesday’s Division II baseball district championship game against Cardinal Mooney at Cene Park. Calcagni came around to score as the Bulldogs went on to an 8-3 victory.
A story in Thursday’s edition of The Vindicator credited the hit to another player.
Donovan is left off US World Cup roster
STANFORD, Calif.
Landon Donovan, the most accomplished American player in the history of men’s soccer, won’t be going to his fourth World Cup. The 32-year-old attacker, who set the national team record for goals and assists while winning five titles in Major League Soccer, was among seven players cut Thursday. Defenders Brad Evans, Clarence Goodson and Michael Parkhurst also were cut along with midfielders Joe Corona and Maurice Edu, and forward Terrence Boyd.
