Investigators probe illegal viewing of movies at prison

An Ohio prisons spokeswoman says investigators are looking into allegations that guards showed pirated movies to inmates at a northeast Ohio prison.

The Chronicle-Telegram of Elyria reports that an inmate at Lorain Correctional Institution complained to officials that movies were being shown before their scheduled DVD release date. The prisoner says he received no response.

The inmate was at the prison earlier this year on a parole violation for a sexual misconduct charge. He previously spent time in federal prison for running a subscription website that distributed pirated movies, computer games and software.

He claims guards showed movies such as “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Ride Along” before they were released to the public.

Prison spokeswoman Linda Briggs says officials know about the complaints and are investigating.
