Canfield golfers decide on colleges


Canfield High School’s athletic foyer will be the site where senior golf team members Olivia DeMartino and Michele Whiteleather formally announce their collegiate athletic plans. DeMartino will be attending Mount Union University to play for the Purple Raiders, while Whiteleather will be attending John Carroll University and competing for the Blue Streaks.

DeMartino is a three-year varsity letter winner for coach Diane McCall’s Lady Cards conference championship and state tournament-qualifying golf team. She has twice earned All-Conference honors in the All-American Conference and All-District honorable mention recognition by the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association.

DeMartino has a 3.942 GPA and is a member of National Honor Society. She is a member of Canfield’s band and choir and an accomplished pianist. DeMartino is also involved with the school’s drama club. Her parents are Gail and Anthony DeMartino.

Whiteleather is also a three-time varsity letter winner. Her superlative play earned her second team All-District recognition by the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association in her junior year as well as all-A.A.C. honors and All-District honorable mention in her senior year.

Whiteleather’s accomplishments include a 3.957 GPA and active membership in the National Honor Society, the Leo’s Club and the speech and debate team. She has also been involved with the school’s drama club. Whiteleather has distinguished herself as a member of the band and choir and volunteers to play at her local church. Her parents are Mary Ann and Mark Whiteleather.
