BOARDMAN

Boardman Township Park property was repaired quickly after vandals damaged a shed and pried open vending machines.

According to a police report, the incident happened sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, when the damage was discovered by maintenance workers.

A worker found a hole in the side of the wooden shed for the vending machines, and both sliding garage doors were damaged, as were door locks.

Three machines were pried open inside the shed and another one outside the shed. Dan Slagle, park executive director, said about $50 was taken.

“Fortunately, because we empty our machines on a regular basis ... there was not a real financial loss there,” Slagle said.

The report estimated $600 worth of damage to the shed and $1,000 worth of damage to the machines, which Slagle said the vending company fixed Wednesday within a few hours at its own cost.

Slagle said this hasn’t happened often at the park. He also said the shed has been repaired for the holiday weekend.
