Streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday for the YMCA of Youngstown’s Outdoor Spin and Memorial Run. They include: Commerce Street; Mahoning Avenue, from Spring Common bridge to Glenwood Avenue; and Champion Street from East Federal to East Commerce Streets.

Group meeting set

Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will meet May 29, beginning at 6 p.m. with refreshments and social time with the business meeting to follow at 6:30 p.m., at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. Speaker will be Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th.

The meeting will be dedicated to discussion about upcoming events, including participation in the City Scape cleanup day May 31. The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will participate by working on plant beds on Sheridan Boulevard. The group also will discuss its car show and fundraiser, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. June 8 at Fairview Arts and Outreach Center, 4220 Youngstown-Poland Road. Those wishing to compete in the car show can register the day of the event.

Man faces charges

A city man was cited for having 11 open suspensions on his license and arrested on drug charges about 3 a.m. Tuesday at Hillman and Parkcliff avenues on the South Side.

Reports said a car driven by 41-year-old Andre Thomas Campbell was pulled over for not having a working brake light or license-plate light. A records check showed that Campbell had the suspensions.

Campbell was fidgeting in the car as though he were trying to hide something and smelled heavily of marijuana, reports said. A small amount of suspected marijuana was found as well as a bag of suspected cocaine.

He was taken to Mahoning County jail on the charges of possession of drugs/marijuana and possession of drugs/cocaine and cited for driving under suspension.
