POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

May 14

Harassment: An East Liberty Street man reported a Hubbard woman was yelling at and harassing his dog as he walked the animal.

May 15

Citation: Officers received information that an intoxicated person was trying to enter a West Liberty Street restaurant before citing 58-year-old Richard L. Taylor of Moore Street, Hubbard, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired. Taylor had a .210 blood-alcohol count, nearly three times the legal limit, a report said.

May 17

Theft: A West Liberty Street woman told police several people stole her kitten.

Arrest: A traffic stop on East Liberty Street resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Robert R. Pesta of Lundy Lane, Boardman, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired. Pesta also received a minor-misdemeanor citation charging operating a motor vehicle without reasonable control.

LIBERTY

May 14

Arrest: Liberty police and members of the Mahoning Valley Fugitive Task Force arrested 18-year-old Lavontae E. Knight in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. Knight, of Monticello Boulevard, Liberty, was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Animal cruelty: Police received a complaint that a dog had been left unattended in a hot car in the 200 block of Goldie Road with no water.

Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail picked up 19-year-old Curtis E. Bevly Jr. of Shehy Street, Youngstown. He was wanted on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Arrest: Officers serving a warrant to a 17-year-old township girl also charged her mother, 36-year-old Christie M. Shamrock, with obstructing official business. Shamrock, of East Montrose Avenue, Liberty, admitted having lied about her daughter’s whereabouts, police said.

Criminal damaging: Someone did $1,000 in damage to a digital sign in the 4700 block of Belmont Avenue.

May 15

Arrest: Police were dispatched to the Mahoning County jail to pick up 25-year-old Heather Church of Rutledge Avenue, Youngstown, on an outstanding Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Theft: Authorities responded to a possible theft at the Travel Lodge Inn, 1610 Motor Inn Drive, where they charged Lawrence E. Lind, 49, of Hyatt Avenue, Campbell, and Justin J. Harrison, 26, of Carlisle, Pa., with theft and criminal trespassing. Police found both men on the private property with a truck containing several light fixtures and metals thought to have been stolen, a report showed.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone used rocks to smash two windows in an unsuccessful effort to break into Gypsy Quick Stop, 600 Gypsy Lane.

Theft: A woman in the 1400 block of Marlane Avenue reported her purse and wallet stolen.

Theft: A Marlane Avenue Extension woman noticed her purse missing from her car.

May 16

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue handed Alvin Tucker Jr. of Euclid Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. Tucker, 28, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Trespassing: Police responding to a suspicious person on a bicycle opening mailboxes on McArthur Road charged 55-year-old George M. Terry with criminal trespassing, obstructing official business and resisting arrest after alleging Terry, of Logan Avenue, Youngstown, was in the backyard of a vacant home in the 800 block. He also refused several times to follow officers’ commands and struggled with them, a report showed.

May 17

Robbery: Authorities responded to the theft of a $140 vacuum cleaner at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they charged 26-year-old Timothy A. Foster of Beaver Creek Drive Southwest, Warren, with robbery, escape, assault and complicity to theft. Foster fought with and slightly injured an asset-protection official who tried to detain him; later, Humility of Mary Health Partners police reported he escaped from St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown after having been taken there for a possible seizure, a township police report stated.

Menacing: A Klines Drive woman reported having found a mustard bottle in her yard that contained a threat against her teenage daughter.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Colonial Drive resulted in the arrest of 51-year-old Cynthia Matsouris of Meanderwood Drive, Canfield, on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Incident: A township woman reported her 17-year-old daughter was assaulted during an altercation at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way.

Theft: A man noticed a USB cord, a backpack and numerous other items missing from his vehicle after he shopped at a Belmont Avenue grocery store.

Counterfeit: A fake $10 bill was passed at Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

May 18

Criminal damaging: A car in the 1000 block of Park Avenue was found with a slashed tire.

May 19

Assault: Kaycee M. Crockett, 20, of East Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, faced a simple-assault charge after a Roosevelt Avenue woman alleged that while retrieving her belongings, Crockett, her former roommate, kicked and punched her head and body. The accuser suffered multiple lumps to her forehead as well as cuts to her face and ear, a report said.

Burglary: Someone kicked open the front door, then broke into a home in the 1200 block of Overbrook Avenue. Stolen was a 40-gallon water tank.

GIRARD

May 16

Theft: A Crumlin Avenue man found out someone without authorization used his debit card to make $232 worth of charges.

Harassment: An Ella Street woman said she received a series of calls of a harassing and insulting nature from what she thought was a fictitious number.

Theft: Two people who claimed to have been forcibly evicted from a residence in the 400 block of North Avenue reported $3,000 worth of property missing, including a 42-inch flat-screen TV and two Sony PlayStation game systems.

May 17

Criminal mischief: A vehicle in the 500 block of Mosier Road was found with a broken passenger-side window. Damage was estimated at $200.

Harassment: A South Randolph Street woman said she received such calls from several local and regional numbers.

Burglary: A man reported seeing two males in the garage of a relative’s vacant home in the 30 block of Hartzell Avenue before discovering a miter saw, six rims and four tires missing. The loss came to $1,500.

May 19

Domestic violence: Marc J. Foster, 32, of Patricia Drive, Girard, was charged with the crime after his girlfriend alleged Foster had placed a knife to her neck and threatened to cut her throat during an argument, then tossed her onto a couch.

Theft: A student at Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road, reported a cellphone stolen.

Assault: A Parkview Drive man said a neighbor pushed him during an argument as part of ongoing problems between them.

Domestic violence: Aaron M. Deans of East Howard Street, Girard, faced a felony domestic-violence charge after his girlfriend alleged that during an altercation, the 31-year-old man tossed her to the ground, tried to throw a coffee table at the accuser and spit on her several times. The charge was upgraded because of a prior conviction, a report showed.

May 20

Recovered property: A mail carrier on Ohio Avenue found a wallet that apparently belonged to a Niles man.

Domestic violence: Kenneth C. Bonacker, 38, of East Liberty Street, Girard, was charged after a woman alleged Bonacker had stomped on her right arm after having punched her teenage daughter during an argument. He also threatened to kill both of them, the woman told police.
