Boardman police arrest man on theft and trespassing charges

A man was caught trying to steal 23 packs of cigarettes at Walmart early Wednesday.

Derrick McIntosh, 45, was charged with misdemeanor theft and misdemeanor criminal trespassing after he violated a trespass warning from 2010.

Police were called to Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, at about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on a man that had entered the store having already received a criminal trespass warning.

According to a police report, McIntosh was found by police exiting Walmart's bathroom and after talking with him, authorities found 22 packs of Newport cigarettes on his person. They found them after they noticed a bulk around his waist and he admitted to taking "stuff" from the store.

Once he was at the police station, authorities found another pack of cigarettes making the total stolen 23.

McIntosh is scheduled to be in court 5:30 p.m. Thursday on the charges. His bail is set at $1,750.
