Cheap seats coming back to Boardman

BOARDMAN

The cheap movie seats are coming back to the township in June.

Brian DeCiancio, co-owner of Encore Cinemas, confirmed the company decided to restart the Movies 8 theater in Shops at Boardman Park next month.

Encore Cinemas operates the Cinema Six in Niles, the Skyway Twin Drive-in and Laser Storm in Warren.

Movies 8, formerly operated by Cinemark, closed in March after 20-some years in business because of the expense of updating to digital equipment.

DeCiancio said the theater will have five out of the eight showrooms in the theater open come mid-June so equipment can be updated.

Celeste Lisko of Handel Investments LLC, which operates Shops at Boardman Park, said the two companies worked together to bring back the theater.

“After the outcry from the community, we just saw that there was so much of a need here [for the theater],” Lisko said.

Ticket prices will be $2, and concession-stand prices will be lower than before, DeCiancio said.
