Movies 8 will reopen in June under a new company

BOARDMAN

The cheap seats are coming back in June.

Brian DeCiancio, co-owner of Encore Cinemas, confirmed the company decided to start Movies 8 theater in the Shops at Boardman Park back up in June.

Encore Cinemas operates the Cinema Six in Niles, the Skyway Twin Drive-in and Laser Storm in Warren.

Movies 8, formerly operated by Cinemark, closed in March after 20-some years in business because of the expense to update to digital equipment.

DeCiancio said the theater will have five out of the eight showrooms in the theater open come mid-June so equipment can be updated.

“I knew it was going to be a very expensive proposition,” DeCiancio said.

Tickets for the theater will be $2 and concession stand prices will be lower than before, he said.
