Man killed in crash

The Canfield barracks of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said a Berlin man was killed about 12:45 a.m. Monday in a motorcycle accident on Duck Creek Road just south of Silica Road in Jackson Township after a deer ran in front of his motorcycle.

A news release from the patrol said Robert Danch, 36, was driving south when the deer came onto the road and ran into the motorcycle.

Danch was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, the release said. The release said Danch was not wearing a helmet. The patrol said alcohol and speed were not factors in the accident.

Motorists arrested

CANFIELD

Five motorists were arrested Saturday and charged with operating vehicles under the influence in Canfield Township.

Officers set up a checkpoint on U.S. Route 224 and Westford Place in Canfield Township from 11 p.m. Friday to 2:15 a.m. Saturday. Some 250 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with 10 being directed to pull over for further investigation.

Authorities also stopped 15 cars during patrols and of those 15, they issued five citations for operating vehicles while impaired.

Facing charges

NILES

Joseph Daniel Jr., 22, of Brier Street, Warren, is charged with aggravated robbery, intimidation of a victim and receiving stolen property in connection with the robbery of a Niles gas station.

Judge Thomas Townley set bond at $10,000 at a hearing Monday in Niles Municipal Court.

Police say he robbed the Fuel Plus gas station, 140 W. Park Ave., just before midnight Friday.

According to Niles Police’s Facebook page, a man took money from the register and customers in the store before fleeing. Weathersfield police captured him.
