Campbell police make more drug arrests

City police arrested three people on drug-related charges.

About 10:30 a.m. Friday, police noticed a suspicious car pull into the rear of the McDonald’s parking lot on McCartney Road, and were approached just moments later by a concerned citizen who said the situation appeared to involve illegal drug activity.

Police then investigated, finding that the driver, 19-year-old Samuel Michael Horvath of Gladstone Street in Campbell, had a suspended driver’s license.

The passenger, 19-year-old Amber May Kansa, of Herman Street in Struthers, then admitted she had marijuana in her bra and that the two were planning to smoke it in the parking lot. She was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Shortly after 7 p.m. Friday, police on patrol noticed a car with no front license plate and a cracked windshield traveling on Coitsville Road. Officers initiated a traffic stop and immediately noticed a strong smell of unburnt marijuana coming from the car.

A search of the car produced three plastic bags of suspected marijuana totaling 2.5 grams and $117 in cash on the passenger, identified as 33-year-old Jose Ramon Rivera Torres of Rigby Street in Youngstown. Torres was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

About 11 p.m. Friday, police stopped a car traveling on Coitsville Road for having an air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror, blocking the driver’s view to the front and also for having multiple juveniles in the car’s back seat.

Officers found that the driver, 26-year-old Terrance Matthew Cook of Grasmere Avenue in Columbus, had only a temporary driving permit. They also noticed five children in the car, including two 2-year-old girls who were seated upon the laps of others, and a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car.

Cook admitted having a small bag of suspected marijuana totaling 1.6 grams and a suspected marijuana cigarette on him. He was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia and also cited for driving without a proper license and for the lack of occupant restraining devices.

Horvath, Kansa, Torres and Cook are set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday.
